Smooth As Ice

Smoothies are healthy snacks to have any time of day and they are quite filling too. They are enjoyed both by kids and adults. If you're craving for something sweet, this is a great alternative.

Here are some wonderful advantages to smoothies:
- Easy way to add more calcium, fibre, antioxidants and vitamins to your diet
- Reducing food wastage by using over ripe fruit
- Easy to prepare
- Low in fat
- Great way to start your day by drinking one for breakfast

What to put in your smoothie:
Fruit, of course. You can use over ripe fruit or frozen fruit such as slices of peaches, nectarines, all berries, banana -- choose your favourites. Frozen fruit can replace ice cubes. You can add more nutrition by using low fat or fat free yogurt, milk or soy milk, tofu, flax seeds, wheat germ, honey etc.

You can also make vegetable smoothies, non dairy smoothies, dessert smoothies and even alcoholic smoothies. Add garnishes and a little paper umbrella and you're good to go.

I know this one doesn't sound too appetizing, but if you're looking for a good protein drink this one does it. Peanut butter is loaded with fibre and protein and banana is a great source of potassium. Put them together and you have a delicious, healthy drink.

Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie
1 banana
1/8 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup soy milk
2 tablespoons honey

In a blender, combine banana, peanut butter and soy milk. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and drizzle with honey for garnish. Tip: Freeze the banana first.

Simply Google Smoothie Recipes and you will find a good variety of great links. Enjoy!
