Ode To Every Day Foods

Salsa and chickpeas to me doesn't really sound like an attractive combination, but together they can help you lose weight. Chickpeas are great protein food and the more you eat it, the faster you will fill up and be less likely to overeat. An Australian study showed a person who ate half a cup of chickpeas daily weighed a pound less and ate less food overall.

Is PMS something you deal with monthly? Studies have shown vitamin D and calcium reduces the risk of developing PMS. Something to think about.

Common sense says if you want to prevent cavities brush your teeth after eating sweets and don't eat sweets that stick to your teeth. While brushing your teeth is always the better alternative, you can reduce cavities with water and unsweetened cranberry juice. Unsweetened cranberry juice prevents the buildup of bacteria that causes cavities and prevents plaque formation from sticking to the tooth's surface. Diluting the juice reduces the tartness.

Half a cup of pinto beans added to any soup lowers unhealthy cholesterol levels. Beans are high in fibre and just one half cup counts for a third of your daily need of fibre. Grape juice also reduces LDL cholesterol and reduces blood pressure.

Fruits and veggies high in lycopene lowers the risk of developing cancer. Watermelon and tomatoes certainly comes to mind.

Maintain healthy eyes by eating kale, spinach or swiss chard. Dark leafy green vegetables contain lutein and carotenoids help fight cataracts and other age-related macular degeneration.
