The Wonders of Oil Pulling

When I first heard the words oil pulling, I thought it had to do with something involving a car like siphoning oil from a car. When I think about it now, it probably wouldn't be a bad analogy.

Oil pulling or oil swishing is a traditional Indian remedy. It was developed by Dr. Karach. It involves taking one tablespoon of cold pressed oil like sesame oil or sunflower oil and swishing it in your mouth and sucking it between your teeth for about 15-20 minutes. This action draws out toxins from your body and it is said to improve chronic illnesses and diseases.

When the oil turns white, it's time to spit it out. Dr. Karach recommends oil pulling in the morning on an empty stomach and after you've brushed your teeth.

People who oil pulls have reported whiter teeth and helped stopped bleeding gums. Others have reported it eased or they no longer take medication for:

- Asthma or allergies
- Diabetes
- Insomnia
- Improve memory
- Overall well-being
- Back pain/neck pain
- Skin conditions

I've never tried oil pulling. I've never liked the feeling of something oily in my mouth and I'm not sure if it will trigger a gag reflex. You can experiment with different oils to see which fits best for you.

Who knows...there's a first time for everything.

Sophia,

I have never heard of that! Wow, see, I learn something new every time I visit your fantastic blog. I will have to try that after my jaw and sinus get fixed in 2 weeks. I want to see if it helps any of my bone and joint pain.

Wow, I have never heard of this either but hubby said he is going to try this. If it works for him I will get my son to give it a try for his asthma.
Thanks for this information.
