My good online friend's daughter is pregnant and she has gallstones. I've never had them before, but I've heard they are extremely...no excruciatingly painful.
The small organ that stores bile from the liver and helps in digestion is called a gallbladder. The bile is released when food contain fat enters the digestive tract. Bile contains bile salts, cholesterol, fats, water, proteins and bilirubin. The materials that make up bile if there's too much of it, crystals form, they stick together, grow larger and hardens.
Women in general are more prone to developing gallstones. Women who are pregnant are more prone to developing gallstones than a woman who's never been pregnant. The reason being there's more cholesterol in the bile when pregnant.
The symptoms of a gallbladder attack are:
*Steady pain in the upper abdomen that rapidly increases. It can last from 30 minutes to several hours
*Pain under the right shoulder or pain in the back between the shoulder blades
*Nausea or vomiting
See a doctor if you experience:
*Fever
*Jaundice
*Clay coloured stools
*Tea or coffee coloured urine
I don't know of any safe home remedies for pregnant women with gallstones, but to only to watch your diet.
Avoid fatty foods and junk foods, eat nuts that have unsaturated fats, cut down on carbs, drink 8-10 glasses of water daily, and eat more fruits and vegetables.
I'm keeping your daughter in my thoughts.

Miss S, excellent post and very timely! Jen's doctor has put her on a bland diet to try to get her gall bladder to calm down.
Funny thing though, she had very little to almost NO morning sickness with this pregnancy and now that she is nearing the end of the line with the pregnancy, she developes gall stones...errr!
Thanks for the blog post my friend!
Hey Shelly,
You're welcome. Unfortunately being pregnant makes your gallbladder go out of whack hence the gallstones.
It's good a thing she is nearing the end of her pregnancy. I can't imagine going through with it for the entire pregnancy.
I hope the pain is diminished enough that she can enjoy the rest of her pregnancy.
hi,
my name is jenelle and i am my moms daughter. thank you for writing this and my mom left me read it. she talks about you all the time, in a good way.
Hi Jenelle,
Thanks for stopping by. I hope the pain eases for you. You have a fantastic Mom and soon to be Grandma for Gianna. I can't wait until Shelly posts photos of you and your daughter.
awww how nice was that! Miss S, I didn't know that Jen left ya a comment here! I need to pay better attention to what she is doing on my puter LOL I updated personal blog this morning with 8 month preggie pics!
Great preggie photos! She's still glowing despite the bump in her pregnancy (no pun intended).
She's getting close to her due date. What an exciting time for the both of you.
