The Power of Garlic For Healing Boils

Thursday, 7 May, 2009
Boils is a skin condition caused by staphylococcus. The bacteria can enter through oil glands or through hair follicles. When the hair follicle becomes infected, the skin produces red nodules and is filled with pus and dead skin. A person may only have one boil, but once the boil breaks the discharge is extremely contagious and it may spread to other parts of the body.

People are more susceptible to boils if they are diabetic, stressed, have a poor diet and poor hygiene, a lowered immune system or a toxic system. In some people, boils may cause fever or swollen lymph nodes.

Here's how you can treat boils with natural home remedies.

- Avoid sugar and refined foods from your diet
- Improve your immune system with enchinacea
- Eat garlic as it contains antiseptic properties and it detoxifies the body
- Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily
- Diet should be high in fibre to avoid constipation. More waste is eliminated through the skin when constipated
- An equal measure of onion juice and garlic juice can be use topically on the boil to speed the ripening of a boil or cut a thick slick of onion and place it over the boil. An onion also has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties
- Stir 1/2 tsp of nutmeg in 1 cup of hot water and drink. Nutmeg stimulates circulation in the body helping it fight the infection

To alleviate pain and discomfort use warm compresses. Don't squeeze or break the boil before it's ripe as it may lead to a deeper infection.
