I've been struggling with this thought for some time now. It seems though wherever I read, cancer is the word that is discussed the most about this month and it's because October is breast cancer awareness month.
My main struggle is on mammograms. Yes, I have had one mammogram before, but do mammograms really help save lives? Any amount of exposure to radiation over time isn't good and each year a woman is exposed to a bit more radiation. Have you ever thought over time this may cause breast cancer? I understand completely why mammograms are pushed upon us and I completely understand why it's necessary to do monthly breast self exams. I'm not sure if mammograms is the way to go.
Do you ever wonder why there are so many eco-friendly products? Mineral makeup? Ever hear of superfoods? There's a reason for all of these because they are so many things in our every day lives that increase our exposure and risk of developing cancer. How many times have you heard or read Vitamin D and sunshine reduces your risk of cancer? For me, way many times. I've also read broccoli, pomegranate seeds, omega-3 oils, sprouts, foods that contain lycopene, tomatoes, and other foods prevent cancer.
If you have ever used natural skin care products, you would have noticed the ingredients are made from extracts of herbs, plants and fruits. Why is that? Because real, organic, unprocessed foods are healthy. Things that are processed are pumped with chemicals. If we know that and we do, why do we continue to use or consume them?
My next question is...
Why is it called "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" and not "Breast Cancer Prevention Month"? Why aren't people being educated on how to prevent cancer instead of taking the dangerous way out and getting mammograms? It's like saying, take this magic diet pill and you will lose weight and you can still eat whatever foods you want. It doesn't work that way.
It all comes down to Big Pharma. The sicker the world is the better for pharmaceutical companies who produce medication become richer. If you can spend thousands of dollars on medication, why not give yourself a better and healthier alternative and seek a naturopath? No, nothing is guaranteed in life, but I know chemotherapy, radiation and medication are not the better alternatives.
I apologize for my incoherent thoughts. I'm passionate about living a natural, healthy life and I'm passionate about learning how we can achieve and sustain a healthy lifestyle.
