Most hiccups will go away on their own and they don't usually last for a long time...a few minutes. You may get hiccups more than once a day, but that's nothing to be alarmed about. If your hiccups become painful or you feel your throat is closing in, then you should seek medical attention.
When hiccups become annoying, there are some home remedies you can try to stop them quicker. When I Googled there were just loads of remedies so instead I went to my trusted sources and asked what tried and true remedies work and here's what I got.

Get someone to scare you, drink from the other side of the glass farthest away from your lips, hold your breath!
This is a popular one and since it's mentioned from so many people...it must work.

This one isn't exactly healthy but has worked numerous time for myself. Put about 1/4 tsp of salt on your palm and lick it all in one go.
She's right. It's not exactly healthy, but hey, it works! And lets just hope you don't get hiccups very often. I guess you can try and find Himalayan Pink Crystal Salt. Rest assured there are other remedies to try.

When I had the hiccups about two weeks ago, my daughter suggested I pull down on my ear lobe and drink water for 5 seconds. I tried it and had a tiny hiccup as soon as I pulled the water bottle away from my mouth. Was it a success? I think so since the hiccups never returned.

3 lemon wedges on a plate. Present them with a long description about the procedure of how to suck all the juice out of the lemons, no breaks or breaths. And then wind them up to do it. On your mark set go! Then they do it! It works everytime!!!!!!
Now, what if you have chronic hiccups? Tell them to go suck a lemon! LOL! I can imagine what the acid will do to your enamel. Egads! Hopefully after being long-winded on the description, the person's hiccups will have subsided.
And this one is my favourite because I'm a strong believer in the Law of Attraction.

Believe it or not, but just concentrating on not having them works as well.
And with that I have to say, yes. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind is very powerful indeed. By the way, that's an excellent self-improvement book to read if you're ever interested.
